How it started

In 1997, I was a 14-year-old kid with big dreams and no roadmap.
Back then, everyone knew me as Daniel Gonzalez — or simply Dan G. I remember looking at brands like Tommy Hilfiger and thinking, if he can put his name on clothes… why can’t I?

That spark never left.

I didn’t know anything about business.
I didn’t have money.
I just had a vision I couldn’t shake.

I saved what I could, went to a small T-Shirt Plus shop at the mall, and made a few shirts with the name DANG on them. I gave them to a couple of my close friends, and every time they wore them to parties, people reacted.
They liked it. They remembered it.
And it made me believe even more that one day, this could be real.

The years rolled by — faster than I expected.
In my 20s, I became a father. I worked whatever jobs I could find: construction, bagging groceries, customer service at a cell phone company. I was doing everything in my power to support my daughter and keep life moving, but the dream never faded.

I even did a trademark search and found a company that could help me file everything… but the price was far out of reach at the time. Still, even with obstacles and detours, I held on to the idea of owning my own clothing brand. It lived in the back of my mind every single day.

As I got older, the name DANG began to evolve.
I started thinking about who I was becoming — and who I always believed myself to be.
Determined. Ambitious. Stubborn in the best way. The type of person who doesn’t quit.

I thought about athletes, too — the people I admired growing up.
What separated them from everyone else?
They were Determined.
They were Ambitious.
They were Notorious for their skill, their discipline, their work ethic.
They were Gifted, yes — but not by luck. Their gift came from practice, grit, and an insane amount of heart.

And that’s when it hit me:

D.A.N.G. = Determined. Ambitious. Notoriously. Gifted.

It was everything I believed in.
Everything I saw in the people doing great things.
Everything I wanted the brand to stand for.

Not just for athletes.
Not just for people who “made it.”
But for people like me — people who didn’t grow up with money, who had to grind every day just to get by, who had dreams bigger than their circumstances.

For the single moms and dads doing their best.
For the ones who wake up tired but keep pushing.
For the ones who still believe in something more.

I wanted D.A.N.G. to mean something.
To remind people to chase their dreams, shoot for the stars, and believe that nothing is impossible when your heart is in it.

In 2015, I finally made it official.
I invested in the LLC, filed the trademarks, and took the leap I’d been waiting for since I was 14.
I started small, making custom dart jerseys — and the support from my community lit the fuse.

Since then, DANG Apparel has grown into shirts, hats, shoes, hoodies, and soon, a full women’s line. And even after twenty-six years of dreaming, building, failing, learning, and climbing, I’m still pushing this brand to new levels.

I’m still grinding.
I’m still growing.
I’m still chasing that vision that started with a 14-year-old kid named Dan G.

Today, I’m Daniel Silva — founder of DANG Apparel — supported by the love of my partner of ten years and our three beautiful children. And my mission is simple:

To inspire people to chase their dreams, never give up, and look good while doing it.

This brand is my story.
But it’s also yours.
And together, we’re proving that determination, ambition, and heart can take you anywhere.
